IP Counsel/Patent Attorney
Be an ambassador, improving the awareness of IP issues within Global Respiratory and beyond.
Working with Teva means you will be close to the action, and will support inventors a great deal of the time. This will mean that there will be some travel to R&D sites (particularly within the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands) and that it will be an important element of your responsibilities to identify and capture IP (especially patents and industrial designs). You will play a key part in Global Respiratory project teams, contributing to meetings and enacting decisions made. You will build a connection with Teva’s Global Patent Group, its Legal & Commercial Departments and, of course, R&D. You will also manage a relationship with external attorneys and lawyers.
This position looks outward, and your concerns will often be global in nature from a strategic perspective. You will have to decide on the best commercial plan keeping in mind a myriad of jurisdictional issues. This might include managing European litigation as well as potentially litigation actions worldwide.
Whilst every day will undoubtedly be different, you will certainly enjoy a great deal of EPO oppositions work, as well as managing infringement and validity issues. IP will be assessed in respect to its commercial value, which will mean due diligence work. It will also be important to ensure that product development is not blocked by 3rd party rights across the world (and identifying 3rd party blocking IP to give freedom for Teva to develop and sell respiratory products around the world).
One of Global Respiratory’s primary interests is the development of breath actuated inhalation devices and inhalable formulations, attracting the interest to someone with a passion for medical devices or indeed the respiratory system. We think it might suit a chemist with a pharmaceutical background, or perhaps a physicist or biotechnologist with some experience of medical devices. Having both UK and European qualifications is ideal, however, European qualified Attorneys from outside of the UK as well as qualified Attorneys from jurisdictions outside Europe may be considered given the global nature of the role. Whilst there will be a great deal to learn initially, the position will ultimately be highly autonomous with the potential for you to have a real influence on commercial strategy. We think the role might be particularly attractive to attorneys with 1-4 years post qualified experience but there is certainly some flexibility. The total remuneration package range is £80-100,000.
