Miller Sturt Kenyon, a Rapidly Growing Firm with a Family Feel.
Fellows and Associates are excited to be working with Miller Sturt Kenyon, who are expanding their electronics practice with a new hire to work alongside Matthew Turner. We think MSK are a fantastic firm to work for, and so in support of the job posting in print and on line, we thought applicants would appreciate some more background on the firm.
Miller Sturt Kenyon was founded in 1957 by Joseph Miller and over the years it has developed into a successful and busy practice, offering strategic and on-going protection of IP portfolios for clients worldwide. The early standards of high quality, value, and attention to detail formulated by Joseph Miller have been carried through over the years and are firmly embedded in Miller Sturt Kenyon’s working philosophy. Their reputation for excellence has always been paramount, which is reflected in the level and detail of service that they provide for their clients.
The firm has maintained a strong international focus and offers advice and assistance on all aspects of Intellectual Property including the filing, prosecution, and maintenance of patents; trade marks; and designs. The practice works with a broad spectrum of technical subject matter, ranging from pumps to electronics, robotics to pharmaceuticals, through to software and optics. They have a strong presence in the US and Japan as well as in Europe, and have lectured extensively at industry events across the world.
Miller Sturt Kenyon has a solid reputation for success and enjoys loyal relationships with world class organisations and household names, particularly in the fields of mechanics, electronics, computers and software. The Electronics team benefits from years of experience and is at the forefront of its profession, creating an engaging and enthusiastic working environment for its employees and encouraging contributions and the sharing of ideas from all of its team members.
Matthew Turner is a Director in Miller Sturt Kenyon’s Electronics team:
“As a rapidly growing firm, I believe that MSK offers a great balance between the advantages of working for smaller and larger firms. MSK still has a friendly ‘family firm’ atmosphere, with all of our staff enjoying a good work-life balance and a collegiate way of working. On the other hand, MSK offers the opportunity to work for household-name clients and on a wide range of cutting edge technology.
Work for our major clients is shared between our entire team of attorneys, which means that everyone gets a great variety of work rather than being pigeon-holed as can happen in some firms. The majority of our work is in the fields of consumer electronics and mechanical engineering. Almost all of our cases relate to tangible products, which I personally find more satisfying to work with than more abstract ideas.
All of our attorneys engage and work directly with clients from an early stage, and meeting potential new clients to advise on the best way to protect their IP would be a significant part of this role. We all travel regularly to meet clients, including to the US and Japan.
The firm is very supportive in time and funding for ideas that our staff come up with, which could relate to CPD, business development or improvements to our working practices for example. Everyone’s ideas are taken seriously and there is a culture of openness to change throughout the firm. Attendance of seminars and other professional events is encouraged and we also give lectures to clients and prospective clients on a regular basis.”
The firm are not restricted by traditional precedents and can tailor their services to the requirements of their clients, as well as moulding their working structures to accommodate the needs of their staff. Their attorneys are supported by a rigorous in-house training programme and a highly skilled formalities team, as well as a software management system which has been built exclusively for the firm following years of continued development and refinement.
New hires will be welcomed into a busy and growing practice, which incorporates both a close knit and collaborative team environment coupled with the reputation and standard of work built from years of impeccable service.
