A UK law firm is seeking a Partner‑level Trade Mark Attorney with an established client following to strengthen and expand its IP and commercial offering. The role sits within a small IP group with clear headroom for growth and a partnership that operates on an equity lockstep basis from day one.
The Role
You will lead and develop the trade mark practice while contributing to the wider commercial/IP strategy. The partnership is collegiate, collaborative and intentionally non‑corporate in feel — a good fit for someone who prefers a measured, human‑centred working culture rather than a high‑pressure, magic‑circle style environment. The working pattern is hybrid, typically two days per week in the office.
The firm is open to candidates based outside London and would consider establishing a presence in another major UK city if the right person joins. Team moves are also possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and expanding the trade mark prosecution and advisory practice
- Developing your client following with full partnership support
- Helping shape the commercial/IP offering as it grows
- Contributing to long‑term succession planning within the department
- Potential to hire and develop junior team members depending on growth
Candidate Profile
- Established client following appropriate for Partner level
- Strong technical capability across trade mark prosecution, strategy and enforcement
- Collaborative leadership style
- Interest in building a practice with genuine room to expand
- Preference for a more relaxed, collegiate culture
Transition & Covenants
The firm is realistic about restrictive covenants and understands that client movement takes time. They operate a two‑year transition period during which expectations are calibrated to allow for gradual migration of work and early growth indicators, rather than immediate profitability. Progress is assessed on trajectory and potential as much as on billings.
