Chemistry (Pharmaceuticals), Early‑career contentious exposure 

A prestigious London patent practice is looking for a part‑qualified Chemistry Patent Attorney to strengthen its pharmaceutical team. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to build a strong foundation in contentious and strategic pharmaceutical patent work. 

The Role 

You will support senior attorneys on a broad mix of drafting, prosecution and contentious matters, including exposure to EPO oppositions and appeals and litigation‑adjacent work. The team advises leading pharmaceutical companies across small‑molecule and related chemical technologies. 

What We’re Looking For 

We’re looking for a part‑qualified attorney who has begun to build early experience across both contentious work and pharmaceutical subject matter. Ideally, you’ll have supported oppositions, appeals or litigation‑related projects while also spending a notable portion of your time working on patents that protect drug products. 

We recognise that part‑qualified candidates may be stronger in one area than the other; what matters is that you bring credible exposure to at least one of these domains and a clear motivation to develop both. Around two years of on‑the‑job experience would be a strong fit, though candidates slightly earlier in their training will also be considered. 

You Will Have 

• Strong academic background in chemistry (organic chemistry advantageous) 

• Solid early‑career experience in drafting and prosecution 

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly 

• Motivation to progress toward qualification and build contentious expertise
