Business World Online reports that Unilab plans to continue with its launch of anti-cholesterol drug “Avamax” planned to bring in between £125k-£375k of annual sales in the Philippines despite Pfizer filing a patent infringement suit against them.  As Pfizer have not filed a TRO Unilab have taken this as the “green light” that their case will not be upheld.  


Contrary to last week’s report that the US patent filings are up EurActiv.com reports this week that European patent filings are down on last year despite 2009 being the European Year of Creativity and Innovation.  With the expectation that filings are 1-3 years behind the current economic cycle do we assume that the US are seeing the boom before the bust or that Europe is simply on a different trajectory?


And finally, Artificial Intelligence company Jacobson & Associates, LLC (J&A) receives a boost as the first of four patents is granted on its unique DaMi2 product line, as reported by Reuters this week.  Whilst the immediate practical applications are geared more towards improved statistical and financial analysis and prediction do we dare to hope that this also takes us a step closer to enabling the download of a human consciousness and eternal life?
