With a patent for “facilitating communications between user members of an online network” being awarded to the Baltimore firm Facebook will most likely have to prove that this was an error on the part of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Whilst Facebook is no stranger to lawsuits there may be a bit more competitive interest in the outcome of this case with a win possibly affecting other networking sites.


 


Mint comments on India‘s, perhaps inappropriate, attempt to “blindly” adopt an old US law. Although some parties feel this could only lead to an improvement as more entities will take on the system to ensure infringed patents are enforced.


 


And finally Forbes report that Western Union win a patent infringement against MoneyGram but is the £16.5m award just a drop in the ocean?
