Microsoft may already outstrip IBM in terms of value generation patents according to Ocean Tomo but now it appears they are also playing catch up to IBM’s nearly decade long run as the company with the most US patents awarded annually, reports The Register.   


 


At first glance GlaxoSmithKline’s attempts to help the developing world, as reported by The Guardian, appear wonderful but closer inspection shows that such philanthropic gestures have cost the company little.  


 


And finally, for those who thought the latest full body scans at the airport were getting a little intimate for our liking, IBM plan on taking things to a whole new level, reports The Register.  It appears that IBM have filed patents for technologies that would track ones every move whilst in an airport; feeding your movements, eating habits, attire and even smell into an “inference engine” that would then alert security if the combined outcome was determined to be suspect.  This is Big Brother – we are watching YOU!
