Fellows Bytes: What Do We Actually Do All Day?

Fellows Bytes: What Do We Actually Do All Day?

In our new miniseries we tackle mistruths and myths surrounding the recruitment industry. This edition sheds some light on what it is we actually do all day.

We understand that there are some fairly negative preconceptions regarding recruiters, their motivations and how they go about their daily working day (although we do hope we’ve done enough to free ourselves of this negativity in the minds of our clients and candidates). For those of you who are still unsure, here’s an idea of what we get up to on a typical working day.

Speaking with Candidates/Clients

Whether it be a speculative call from a potential new candidate enquiring about active opportunities, calling in relation to a specific role we have advertised, or perhaps a client getting in touch with a new role instruction; we spend a significant proportion of our time in contact with our candidates and clients. Considering a move can be a daunting task (not to mention both time and energy consuming) which means it is extremely important to have an open and ongoing dialogue with both clients and candidates to ensure the correct fit for each role. If we spend the time to get to know you, we’ll be able to determine which firms will be right for you (or which candidate will match the brief), and
those that won’t.

Writing Advertisements, Managing our Social Media Accounts and General PR

Many of our regular readers will know that we like to do things slightly differently than your typical IP recruiter, which of course takes time and a level of upkeep. We jointly manage our social networks, such as Twitter and LinkedIn, ensure our personal accounts remain visible, and generate content for our website such as Louisa’s film reviews and Phillipa’s video roundups. We also take the time to write detailed job advertisements for each of our clients (because one liners just don’t cut it for us) and brainstorm ideas for our own monthly CIPA advertisement.

Focusing on Retained Projects

When working on a retained project it normally takes priority over our typical day to day and can include all of the above, as well as sourcing and calling suitable headhunt targets, and developing targeted promotional content such as interviews with key Partners and candidate information packs.
