Salaried Partner, Top Tier Firm, Biotechnology, London

  • Full Time
  • London
Job Region: South East

Recent hiring trends have favoured associates, as firms seek cost-effective ways to manage workload and turnover. Partner hires have been rare, especially given restrictive covenants that limit client mobility.

That’s why this Partner role stands out. It offers a rare chance to make a strategic move where your leadership and client relationships will be genuinely valued.

The biotech group has grown considerably and an additional partner is needed to help support the growth of the practice as well as providing management and mentoring to a small team.

We believe this role will be attractive to a current Salaried Partner (or equivalent – FSE/Director etc.) who enjoys business development.  Perhaps you have felt that your current firm does not support you enough in this regard? Maybe they do not fund international trips, or they rely too heavily on legacy clients.

This position will be different.

The firm will support your ideas for business growth as well as providing a support team of business development professionals.  They will not only fund but encourage business development activities including international travel and conference attendance.

In addition to building new revenue streams from new clients you will also help grow new business from existing clients.  You will likely be someone who enjoys managing client relationships and gets a kick out of attending a networking event.

Being a partner, you will not only be concerned with revenue growth you’ll also have a focus on the personal development of your team.  You will apply your aptitude for coaching, mentoring and training to direct reports and those you will be working with on specific projects.

The current client base is very broad, the technology mix includes: oligonucleotide based therapeutics (ASO, mRNA vaccines/immunotherapies, RNA editing); antibodies and antibody conjugates; CAR-T; stem cells and other cell therapies; GPCR technologies; live immunotherapies; synthetic biology and diagnostics.  A majority of the work (c. 60%) comes from direct clients and is primarily non-contentious.

For current partners interested in this role there will be no transition period, you will join as a partner of the firm.  The firm will also consider candidates who will be stepping up to partner if they can demonstrate an aptitude for business development and people management.  You will be a UK and European qualified Patent Attorney with a technical background in biotechnology.
