Working with Elkington and Fife, as a Biotechnology Partner
Fellows and Associates are pleased to be working with Elkington & Fife on the recruitment of a Partner or Partner Designate to join their Biotechnology team. The text that follows expands on our recent advertisement for the position on our website and in the CIPA Journal which can be found here.
Elkington & Fife has had a long history of achievement since its establishment in 1927, and over the years it has embraced a development strategy that has successfully secured its position as a leading firm in the UK and internationally. Although the firm itself has been around for quite some time, their outlook is in no way old fashioned. They pride themselves on their progressive and outward facing approach, and have managed to produce an environment that is inclusive, open and enthusiastic. At present, the firm operates out of two offices: one in Central London and one in Sevenoaks, Kent. They have also recently established a small satellite office at Discovery Park, Kent; further highlighting their desire for growth.
The Biotechnology team, which will be led by the successful candidate, is closely aligned with the Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group. The Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group has extensive experience in contentious work, including EPO oppositions and litigation, as well as being at the leading edge of patent prosecution and SPC proceedings. The attorneys have strong academic qualifications and a number have worked as in-house counsel/senior managers for major companies, which provides a stimulating and challenging dynamic. They also actively lecture on IP issues in both the UK and overseas, and have published papers on technical and IP matters in international journals and patent guides.
The firm hopes that the successful candidate will take an active role in developing the existing biotechnology practice to match the success of the Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group; so there is a real opportunity to establish oneself in a rapidly expanding team. Elkington & Fife strive to maintain the highest standards of client service at all times, through the high calibre of the people which it employs and consequently attracts. Therefore, they wish to hear from client focused, career driven and forward thinking candidates with a strong background in biotechnology (or biochemistry) work. In return, they are offering an impressive benefits package which includes a competitive base salary, a bonus and rewards plan, and private healthcare. Elkington & Fife are wholly committed to developing and expanding their biotechnology practice, and plan to invest in additional attorneys as it grows. They will also provide numerous opportunities for personal growth and development, and will encourage the successful candidate to attend and participate in external seminars/conferences, acting as an ambassador.
Each of Elkington & Fife’s eleven Partners are acknowledged experts in their respective fields, and are able to offer a combination of practical, commercial and focused IP advice, as is required by the firm’s large and varied client portfolio. Their impressive list of international clients ranges from private inventors, SMEs and investors, to academic institutions and international companies. Due to the firm’s excellent IP advice and client service abilities, they have retained a substantial number of international clients for decades. These include the likes of Takeda, Nestlé and Procter & Gamble, plus other long standing clients such as AbbVie (formerly Abbott), Alcon/Novartis, Sandoz, Mylan, Teva, Actavis, Philips and Samsung. The firm also has a particularly strong client portfolio in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors, due to the reputation of the Partners who lead the Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group – Dr Richard Gillard, Dr Oliver Kingsbury and Dr Richard Cooke; and through the continued support of Dr Gordon Wright as a consultant. The firm does not have a biotechnology Partner at present; therefore the potential for Partnership and to be the ‘go to’ person for biotechnology work is excellent.
