In House IP Managers – A New Era in Networking?
The Forum held its inaugural meeting in London on 30 September 2010, and the theme was “Reducing Patent Costs Effectively: A Guide for In House IP Managers”. Adam Wylie of IP Pragmatics outlined the benefits of “IP Forecaster”, a patent cost forecasting tool; Keith Jones of Fisher Weiler Jones gave a presentation on the hot topic of the patentability of computer program and business method implemented inventions, Andrew Browne provided insights on devising and implementing patent protection strategies as well as cost saving management tools, and Zeev Fisher of Fisher Weiler Jones identified how clients can achieve improvement opportunities in dealing with external patent agents. Powerpoint slides for each presentation will soon be available on the Forum’s website.
The Forum will provide enhanced opportunities for IP Managers to discuss and seek advice and support on common issues, challenges and aspirations; network and provide peer support and information share (e.g. on best practice around IP house-keeping and IP audits; devising and implementing commercially driven IP strategies; trawling for competitor and market intelligence, and achieving consensus on IP lobbying). The Forum will also facilitate lectures on IP hot topics from subject matter experts, and this will be based on what members want. Fundamentally, the goal of the Forum is to enhance the ability of members (and the companies for whom they work) to identify, protect and enforce IP in the most productive and cost effective manner.
Kimberly and Andrew warmly welcome new members to the Forum. If you are interested in becoming a member, please email Kimberly or Andrew. The Forum is keen to have views from its members on what it should deliver. On getting in touch, you will be sent a short questionnaire to ensure that your views are taken into account.
