Williams Powell are recruiting a commercially-orientated trade mark attorney to help grow their Trade Mark Department. There is a wide range of flexibility as to the candidate they might consider but all candidates will have the desire and initiative to develop the business. This could take the form of travel to conferences such as the INTA Annual Meeting or more bespoke business development trips. However, candidates do not necessarily need to have a great deal of previous experience in this area. You might for example be an associate who feels you are not entrusted with enough responsibility by your firm and who feels that your creativity and ambition are not sufficiently rewarded.
Whilst the position is one in which the firm wants you to help grow the department, it doesn’t mean there is not existing work. In fact, the firm already has a great deal of work (with particular strength in the technology, sport and construction sectors). You will be stepping into a large portfolio and have the support of a trainee trade mark attorney and a Partner who is a trade mark attorney qualified by examination. You will therefore be highly competent in all aspects of running a trade mark portfolio (including contentious work), have a good reputation with your existing clients and a strong billing record. There is ample work for the role to be entirely self-sustaining but the firm really wants to grow which means that, if successful, you will be involved in building the team in years to come and will have the potential to progress over time.
Candidates should be either a UK trade mark attorney, a UK solicitor with a background in transactional trade mark work or a qualified trade mark attorney from a jurisdiction outside the UK but within the European Union. Candidates will likely have at least one year’s post qualified experience but the firm is happy to consider attorneys all the way up to and including existing Partners of other firms. This could be a role that grows and changes over time as your experience in it develops and/or be an opportunity where you realise any unfulfilled ambitions limited by the structure and culture of your current position.
